Climate Justice and Community-Driven Leadership in Kahuku

This project aims to coordinate multiple community stakeholders in pursuit of a $5 million U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) Public Works grant that would advance two strategic objectives for the Kahuku community:

  1. Continue to build momentum around decades of community capacity building toward economic self-determination as plantation agriculture transitioned to tourism.
  2. Introduce a potential game-changing variable in moving towards resolving flooding.

The project will support a specialist grant writer and facilitation of community convening and visioning to put Kahuku in a competitive position to bring these federal funds to Hawaiʻi.
