Calculated risks have been a theme in John Leong’s career from the moment he decided to return to Hawai‘i after college to become a social entrepreneur. In 2001, the risk paid off with the creation of resource management business Pono Pacific Land Management LLC, and closely related youth development nonprofit Kupu, which he founded along with his wife Julianna Rapu Leong and COO Matthew Bauer in 2007.
